Book - Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells

I have not seen this movie but thought it might be a fun chick flick to rent sometime so I decided to read the book first. It is a Southern book about love, friendship and family. The story revolves around Siddalee Walker and her mother Vivi; Sidda is involved in a new play in New York and when a reporter for the Times makes a disparaging remark about her mother in the paper, Vivi decides to disown her daughter, cut her out of her will and forbids her friends from talking to her. Vivi and her 3 friends are the Ya-Ya's, friends since childhood and fond of adventures. Sidda decides to go off by herself to Washington state to think about her upcoming marriage and repair things with her mother. Vivi sends her a 60 yr old scrapbook she has kept that chronicles the Ya-Ya's years and many activities together. The scenes shift back and forth from Sidda to Vivi and Vivi's memories. Some of the more entertaining and colorful parts are some of the things the Ya-Ya's experienced while growing up. The scrapbook doesn't give her all the answers she wants but it does give her insight into her mother and help in deciding what she needs to do at this point in her life. It is kind of a fun book to read, especially if you like things that are Southern and some colorful women characters!
