DVD - King Arthur

An interesting take on the King Arthur legend - both realistic and creative. Well conceived and woven even if slightly lacking in development and resolution of themes and back stories. However, it does have good dialogue and themes, but it overlooks the complications of Pelagius's teachings, namely that they are heretical! This was just short of being a really good movie.

My Score:

I own this movie and it is one my favorites when you are in that kind of Braveheart type movie but dont want to sit through four hours of Mel Gibson. It is unlike all other Arthur movies in its historical relevance and is much darker. However, I am fan of Clive Owen and an even bigger fan of Kierra Knightley. If not for these two actors it would just be a good rental but the addition of Keirra makes it worth owning.

We really enjoyed this movie. We saw the original, theatrical version last summer when it first came out. I have to say I enjoyed that version better - the "extended director's" cut that came out on DVD this year is much gorier and more graphic. Lots more chopping off of heads and limbs, and extended battle scenes. I prefer the cleaner version!
We thought this was a great retelling of Arturian legend. Most of the movies are very noble and sugar coated and it was refreshing to see this gritty, realistic retelling. I liked the time shift, much earlier, more medieval, more primitive.
We really enjoyed this movie - so much so that we recently bought a previously viewed copy at the video store and added this one to our collection! :)
