Book - Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind by Ann B. Ross

I checked this book out of my library, after browsing the bookshelves one day and running across several of these in a series. I had never heard of the books or the author, but thought I would give them a try, as I like books in a series. The front of the book says "I absolutely loved this book. What a joy to read! -- Fannie Flagg". So, that was enough to convince me to try it.

I really enjoyed this book. It was funny, engaging, charming, and a quick read. Very Southern too. The main character is Miss Julia, a very proper Southern woman in her 60's, recently widowed. She'd lived her whole life a certain way, and when her husband dies, she starts discovering things. Like she inherited more money than she ever knew they had. That she had a mind of her own and might be allowed to speak it if her husband weren't around. That her husband "kept" a woman on the side. This she learned when the woman showed up with her illegitimate nine year old son, and dumped him on Miss Julia's doorstep to "tend". The story really takes off from there, and I very much enjoyed it.

I plan to read all of the books in this series that I can find at my library. They are charming and fairly clean, and have a good heart to them. I really enjoyed this book. :)
